Non-Seasonal Changes Exhibition at D-Light Studios

The highlights of the group exhibition Non-Seasonal Changes consists of a series of images by Polish documentary photographers of The Visavis.pl Photographers’ Collective, Kraków depicting the Polish town of Niepołomice. Niepołomice is a place dramatically transformed since Poland’s entry to the E.U. in 2004. Here the enormous changes of recent years have a familiar face, for instance apartments which have changed due to their owners' new prosperity, growing awareness of the need to protect the natural environment, the development of civic initiatives and responsibilities by involving the disabled in the local community.

The photographers of The Visavis.pl Photographers’ Collective, Kraków dedicate their works to comment on reality in a subjective manner, looking for inspiration in the most banal elements of everyday life. Their statements are closely linked with social commentary, which err away from documentary photography in its purest form.

Photographs of changing Niepołomice and its inhabitants have been taken since summer 2006 and the resuting body of work was first exhibited outside Bunkier Sztuki in December 2006 in Kraków. Since then many new work from this project have been on shown at various exhibitions.

D-light Studios Owner Wins Dublin City Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award!

On Monday 13th December Polish fashion photographer Agata Stoinska was the proud winner of the Dublin City Female Entrepreneur of the Year. The award ceremony, which was granted by the Dublin City Enterprise Network for Women, took place at Civic Offices where Stoinska was awarded for a second time, having won the Rising Star Award in 2009.

An architect by trade, Stoinska set her sights on the world of fashion photography in 2003, and soon became one of the most sought after photographers in the country. Stoinska’s personal work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Ireland, Europe and the United States.

Unsatisfied with the range of studios Dublin had to offer, Stoinska set about establishing a large studio space in the city that would accommodate the photography, fashion, television and arts industries. D-light Studios opened in early 2009 and boasts clients such as RTE, TV3, BBC, Meteor, Vodafone, PhotoIreland Festival, Sweet Media, Elevate and Thinkhouse P.R.

In the summer of 2010, Stoinska introduced the world to her latest endeavour; BLOW Photo Magazine. This large format image-based publication features both emerging and established photographers and is published quarterly by Hudson Killeen. Hudson Killeen were recently awarded the Overall Print of the Year Award at the Irish Print Awards for their work on BLOW.

Photographer, Studio Owner, Magazine Editor and Entrepreneur; with all these achievements to her name, we look forward to seeing what Agata Stoinska will set her sights on for 2011.

Jazz Evening: The Nina Simone Escapade (05 November)

Stargaze* Productions are extremely happy to announce the next exciting installment in their popular series of jazz evenings, which will take place at D-Light Studios on Friday, the 5th of November.

They invite you to curl up by the fireplace on a cosy couch in one of the city’s most creative and daring spaces as you lose yourself in the hypnotizing vocals of Colette Henry, performing with her band, Colette Quartet

The Nina Simone Escapade

Colette Quartet have created a show that celebrates the incredible music and the life of Nina Simone. The songs she made famous are woven between stories of her life to give you a special insight into a very passionate woman and her songs. It will be an evening of energy, truth and a chance to get involved in creating the music!

As one of the most powerful voices of the last century, Nina Simone inspired millions and confused critics who tried to categorize her. She brought together music from different cultural backgrounds – jazz, soul, protest songs, blues, folk, light theatre and mixed this with her personal background as a child prodigy classical pianist.

Bringing all these influences to light will be Colette’s voice which moves effortlessly between sweet and sensual, and powerful and gritty. “Colette Henry is a fine new Jazz singer with crystal clear delivery. One to watch.” Dermot Rogers, Dublin City FM

Alongside Colette, Johnny Taylor (Piano) Andrew Csibi, (Double Bass) and Dominic Mullan (Drummer) create musical unity and powerful atmosphere that brings a freshness to the well-known Nina Simone numbers.

A real treat of an evening, best experienced live.

“Colette Henry is a fine new Jazz singer with crystal clear delivery and empathy for classic songs. One to watch.” – Dermot Rogers, Dublin City FM
